We successfully competed in this years National Rowing Championship, in Farranwoods, Cork on July 14th, 15th and 16th. Seventeen rowers from 2nd year, 3rd year and 4th year took part.
We are very proud of our Men’s Junior 16 8+ crew who took home silver medals. The crew were Conal Regan, Matt Smith, Peter O’Grady, MJ Power, Mark Kavanagh, Louis Crowe, Jack Tiernan, Sean Hannon and Alex Cronnelly (cox).
Some of the same crew took to the water again in the Men’s Junior 15 8+ race and achieved second place. The crew were Ben Hogan, Colm O’Haongusa, Conor Slattery, Oisin Fitzgerald, Peter Spellman, Peter O’Grady, M J Power, Jack Tiernan, and Sean Hannon (cox).
Most of our rowers competed in the single scull events in their age groups and their times were very impressive. The fastest times of the Blackrock crew on the 2000m course were achieved by Louis Crowe, Fergal McCluskey, Peter O’Grady and Conal Regan in single sculls. Alex Cronnelly and Oisin Fitzgerald both won Gold medals in the Men’s Junior 15 single sculls (1x).
We also entered the Men’s Junior 16 4+ and Men’s Junior 15 4+ in our new boat ‘Fides’. We achieved 3rd place in the Junior 16 event.
We look forward to continued success next year. We would like to thank all the parents, the school, rowing committee and coaches for all their help and support throughout the year.
